ARTIST'S STUDIO HOME
Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield
BRIEF
To Create a Studio Home for an Artist Who May be Inspired by the Surroundings of the Park
I chose one of my favourite artists who inspired one of my GCSE art projects. Katsushik Hokusai, most famous for his work The Great Wave of Kanagawa, was largely inspired by nature and mostly painted and printed images of landscapes, bodies of water and also a series of different bird species. We were tasking with designing the small home around their artistic process, interests and hobbies. By creating a typical 24 hour narrative for my artist I began to imagine what kind of spaces and furnishings he would need. He was known as a solitary man who enjoyed his own company, therefore the site I picked on the park was stepped away from the path and offered panoramic views across the lake, and also a view into the forest behind.
